Pullman Strike: May 11, 1894 in Pullman, Illinois , a worker town owned by the Pullman Palace Car Co., employees began a strike when their wages went down due to the economic crisis of 1893. A total of 6,000 rail workers committed property damage estimated to be worth 340,000 or 8,181,000 in 2012. The strike was broken up by the U.S. Marshalls and 12,000 United States Army Troops, and The Illinois National Guard. Grover Cleveland Called for this much support on the grounds that it disrupted U.S. Postal Service mail service, and violated the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. (links to wiki page.)
